The Travelling Circus

The travelling circus brought their community to mine

When the circus came to Redbourn, a small village in Hertfordshire, I took the opportunity to go behind the scenes as they set up the big top and brought with them a sense of home.

These photos, most of which are arranged chronologically, were taken for my MA Documentary Photography course in September 2024 with the assignment theme of “work”. All are with a fixed 35mm lens, no higher than 1250 ISO and they are obviously all black and white (with minimal editing). With thanks to Jay at the Santus Circus who was kind enough to take me behind the scenes.
