In the 25 years I’ve lived in and around London, a number of major property developments have transformed vast areas of the city: Docklands, Kings Cross, Stratford, Nine Elms, Paddington Basin, and now Brent Cross.
Brent Cross West, opened in December 2023, is the first new mainline station to be built in London in over a decade. Over 10km of track was reconfigured to make way for the 7000m2 station, which provides the gateway to new neighbourhood Brent Cross Town.
The Thameslink (client) managed station has four platforms and a new overbridge that gives pedestrians the ability to cross this part of the Midland Main Line for the first time in 150 years, linking communities on both sides of the station. Trains connect Brent Cross to central London in as little as 12 minutes, with up to eight trains an hour at peak times and connections to Luton Airport, the Elizabeth Line at Farringdon, Gatwick Airport and Brighton.
I photographed Brent Cross West for Govia Thameslink Railways (client). Brent Cross Station was the New London Award winner 2024.
